Droichead Arts Centre is delighted to announce the first event for SOLO: Out On The Weekend: the critically acclaimed A Lazarus Soul, with their unique brand of raw, genuine, unmistakably Dublin inspired storytelling to Drogheda for the festival on Saturday 12 March with an acoustic performance from Brian Brannigan and Joe Chester.

A Lazarus Soul, led by Brian Brannigan, have produced four albums to date, with the most recent, 2019’s The D They Put Between the R & L, earning a place on almost every albums of the year list in the country.

All of the A Lazarus Soul albums have heavily featured the music of, and were produced and arranged by, one of Ireland’s finest producer-musicians, Joe Chester, who will perform with Brian on the night.

Brian Brannigan was nicknamed Lazarus by his mother. She was told he wouldn’t survive at birth & when he did, he was diagnosed with a form of Spina bifida. He pulled through major surgery early in life, only to be diagnosed with cancer in his teens. A mixture of good fortune & surgery saved him again. However this trauma had a huge effect on a young mind & songwriting became his coping mechanism, his way of figuring out the world. His songs became those of A Lazarus Soul & Brannigan has gone on to build a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest lyrical commentators.

Suitable for ages 18+

“A rich tapestry that resonates with sadness & anger” Hot Press

“A lowkey but frequently powerful piece of work” Irish Times

One of the best album I’ve heard in years & years” Damien Dempsey

Also appearing on the night will be songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Caimin Hall, a deeply accomplished folk songwriter and veteran of legendary Drogheda-area bands like Harafish, The Cacks and The Great Okwardo.
