More about this event

Curated by Vivienne Byrne.

Artists Raphael Hynes and Máire O'Sullivan share with us their exceptional attention to the act of looking, where measurement is vital and doubt is ever present. Offering a unique dialogue between discipline and instinct, plein air and object, Countless Uncertain Precisions examines the practice of two highly distinguished painters whose respective practices distil shape, form and colour within carefully considered compositions. The intimate and developing relationship between artist and subject or still life object manifests in extraordinary representations of everyday objects and observances.

Raphael Hynes is a Drogheda native, who is widely known for his still-life paintings, etchings and drawings that celebrate a dedication to both mathematics and the power of a slow analytical approach. With a background in teaching, his generositiy in sharing an expansive knowledge of art history, contemporary painting and classical music is renowned.

Máire O'Sullivan, is a contemporary Irish artist based in Malahide whose plein air painting, life drawing and portraiture sees her adapting with rigour, and responding with delicacy to the constant changeable conditions for working from life. She is highly regarding for her involvement in and contribution to various art groups, facilitating portraiture and life drawing sessions.
