Made up on Brendan McCreanor (uilleann pipes), SJ McArdle (voice and guitar) and Barry Kieran (fiddle), Kern are Co. Louth’s best-loved contemporary folk band. Their debut album, False Deceiver, produced by Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, The Waterboys), garnered significant national airplay with its mix of songs and tunes from the band’s home county, along with their own original material.

The band has toured extensively in the past couple of years, winning the 2018 Temple Bar TradFest Showcase and performing at the largest Irish festival in America Milwaukee Irish Fest. As well as 2019 dates at Folk Alliance in Canada and in Germany, Kern also appeared at this year’s Temple Bar TradFest.

Releasing their highly awaited second album in September 2019, they’ll bring a miz of new songs and familiar favourites to this unmissable live performance.

"A solid grasp of traditional and contemporary forms. Rich sonorous blending of uilleann pipes and fiddles lift the instrumentals while SJ McArdle's gritty voice and dexterous songs add an interesting extra lustre" - Roots Magazine

"The band's dashing blend of traditional folk and contemporary songwriting is brilliantly captured on its debut CD, False Deceiver ... Steeped in the tradition yet boasting a contemporary poetic sensibility, it will be a surprise if Kern doesn’t go on to bigger and better things"- The Thin Air
