Thursday 24th October

From BBC Young Musician to royal weddings, young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason joins the Irish Chamber Orchestra for one of only two Irish performances of Saint Saëns’ Cello Concerto. The orchestra will perform Meltwater by Irish composer Deirdre McKay, Egmont Overture by Beethoven, Bizet’s melodic First Symphony and be joined by Sheku for Saint-Saen’s hit cello concerto, which is always a firm favourite with audiences.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason is one of the brightest young stars on the classical music scene today. Winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, he has been in huge demand with the world’s concert halls and orchestras. The phenomenal success of his first album propelled Sheku to the top of the album and classical charts while his performance at the British Royal Wedding in 2018, gave him overnight stardom.

Based in Limerick, the Irish Chamber Orchestra is Ireland’s most dynamic ensemble. Mixing traditional repertoire with new commissions and collaborating with everyone from DJs to dance companies, the ICO pushes the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can do.
