Droichead Presents Drama: Theatre Club  - Autumn Programme 2018

Theatre Club is back, and we have a fantastic programme coming up this Autumn Season. Kicking us off is Roddy Doyle's ‘achingly, breathtakingly funny’ two-hander TWO PINTS, presented by The Abbey Theatre, which will be performed offsite at The Living Room, Sarsfields Bar. Pat Kinevane and Fishamble are back due to popular demand, and this time they are bringing their first ever trilogy of plays, FORGOTTEN, SILENT &  UNDERNEATH written and performed by the Olivier Award winning Pat Kinevane. Pat is one of Irelands finest acting talents and has achieved international acclaim with his trio of tour-de-force solo plays. His performance of each play over three consecutive nights in Droichead is sure to be something special. And finally, but by no means least we have the acclaimed WHAT GOOD IS LOOKING WELL WHEN YOU’RE ROTTEN ON THE INSIDE by Emma O Grady, a striking new piece of theatrical work, which will ensure O’Grady’s well-earned place in the Irish theatre canon. This is a playwright to watch.
So book your five tickets for €65 and be part of the Drama.

Theatre Club - Droichead Presents Drama: Similar to a book club, where you read and then discuss a book, Theatre Club is about bringing a group of people together to see a play, and then allowing you the opportunity to talk about it after.  Love it or hate it, moments that moved you, characters that unsettled you. Limited to 50 people, you don't need any particular skills, if this is your first play, your 50th play, it doesn't matter, you just need to bring yourself along and enjoy! So have your say, debate, discuss, and be heard.

TWO PINTS - Wednesday 29 Aug
By Roddy Doyle | Abbey Theatre
After a sell-out tour of pubs across Ireland in 2017, Roddy Doyle’s ‘achingly, breathtakingly funny’ Two Pints is back for another round. The hilarious and provocative Two Pints started as a conversation on Facebook. Now it’s a play. Two men meet for a pint. They talk about their Da’s, death, Nigella, North Korea, the afterlife… Pull up a stool and listen in as they chew the fat and set the world to rights. Directed by Catriona McLaughlin and starring Liam Carney & Phillip Judge.

Please note this performance will take place at The Living Room, Sarsfield Bar,125 Cord Rd, Drogheda, Co Louth

By Emma O'Grady
One month before his death, retired civil servant and man of few words Paddy O’Grady had a sudden urge to talk. Using a cassette tape recorder, he recorded hours of stories; absurdist political satire and musings on life, love and death. In this production Paddy’s granddaughter, Emma O’Grady, examines the fractured and fragile personas we present to the world, who we might be behind them and who we could be instead. This is a charming show about emotional inheritance and grief for wasted creativity that serves as both a tribute and a warning. Supported by the Arts Council

"...a striking piece of theatrical work." Reviews Hub

Thur 27 Sept | Fri 28 Sept | Sat 29 Sept
Don't miss your chance to see all three plays in one venue.
These three plays are full of Kinevane's characteristic humour and darkness, matched with his unique performance style and the expertise of Fishamble.

FORGOTTEN – Thursday 27 Sept
‘Has no one a skitter o’ dignity left?’
A unique collage of Kabuki dance and Irish storytelling, Forgotten has been a huge international success for Fishamble during the past decade. It is a captivating portrayal of four elderly characters living in retirement homes around Ireland. Pat Kinevane’s haunting performance brings to life these sometimes forgotten voices of society.

Drop everything…book now…captivating, moving and – yes – even unforgettable- The Irish Times

SILENT - Friday 28 Sept
“Hopeless, helpless, in-the-way person”
Homeless McGoldrig has lost it all - including his mind. Dare to laugh at despair and gasp at redemption in this brave, bleak, beautiful production for which Fishamble and Pat Kinevane won an Olivier Award in 2016.

passionate...stunning...carefully wrought production...an artist of the theatre.’ - New York Times

UNDERNEATH  - Saturday 29 Sept
Sticks and stones didn’t break Her bones, but words and pointing crushed Her. Is Beauty really only skin deep? Does Ugliness hide somewhere deeper?
This stunning play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life. The multi award-winning Fishamble production explores the surface, and what lies underneath.

“Briliant… striking…excellent…almost a masterpiece”  - Irish Times
