As part of our strategy, we want everybody to know the arts in their lives. We know the difference the arts can make to people’s lives. That’s why we want to extend experiences of the arts to as many people as possible within our communities. We want the arts in Droichead to be of, by and for the people of Drogheda, East Meath and Louth. For 2025, we have devised a year long outreach programme for Secondary Schools in Drogheda and East Meath for 2025.
Featuring four projects – a photographic exhibition; a partnership with the Gaiety School of Acting; a Young Creatives Programme for TY students; and Raise Your Spear to coincide with Stand by Me Week in November. We welcome an expression of interest from your school regarding these projects. See below for further information and any queries please email collette.farrell@droichead.com
WHAT DROGHEDA MEANS FOR ME
A new photographic exhibition by and of young people across
Drogheda and its environs. Supported by the Augustinian
Church; Roisin Curtis, St. Marys Diocesan; Yvonne Fagan ,
Our Lady’s College and Droichead Arts Centre. The Friars of the Augustinian Church have devised a new open submission photographic
competition to encourage young people across the town to go out and photograph their town, to explore the beauty,
heritage and the positives of Drogheda, to look at what Drogheda means to them?
The Augustinian community will sponsor prizes for the best of and will also look at additional costs such as framing.
There will be support available around setting up a photographic club in your school. Each school can submit a number of photographs for inclusion in the exhibition, more information from collette.farrell@droichead.com
GAIETY SCHOOL OF ACTING WORKSHOPS
Droichead Arts Centre are partnering with the Gaiety School
of Acting, the National Theatre School of Acting, who are
offering free Drama taster workshops to local schools.
YOUNG CREATIVES PROGRAMME
Facilitated by artist, writer, curator, Dani Gill, this week long
programme will allow TY students to explore creativity with a
focus on some well-known artists, and some case studies,
and participate in taster workshops in visual arts, songwriting
and drama. No experience required. We want to reach out
to young people who might have an interest in the arts, but
maybe never had the confidence to participate before.
RAISE YOUR SPEAR
A bespoke workshop project with secondary school students,
exploring the themes of identity, community and advocacy.
Participants will customise their own spear as part of the
workshops, and the spears will go on to be exhibited in some
way in public installations in 2026 alongside words and
reflections from the workshopping process. Facilitated by
artist, writer and curator Dani Gill.
