The ARTCAREER project focused on exploring the
experiences of working as an artist in the regions of Ireland
today. With the support of Droichead Arts Centre, 40 artists
were interviewed in Drogheda and the surrounding region
between 2021 and 2022. From this study the researchers, Dr
Deirdre McQuillan of Technological University Dublin and
Prof Elizabeth Keating of the University of Texas at Austin
developed the ARTCAREER Matrix to help artists think about
and plan their careers. Workshops and focus groups were then
held in Dungarvan, Tralee, Ballina, Mullingar, Swords and back
to Drogheda in July 2022.
To finish the project the researchers
have drafted their findings and feedback from the regions of
Ireland into a policy report for The Arts Council of Ireland
titled "Working as an artist in the regions of the Republic of
Ireland today".
