Droichead Arts Centre are delighted to work with actress and playwright Aoife Hall from Bettystown, East Meath, and her co writer Ciara Byrne on their first production Stones and Boiling Water this August. Both recent graduates of The LIR Academy, this is part of our strategy to support young emerging artists and recent graduates from this region. Enabling artists to make and create work, and as such develop an ecology which nurtures art and artists.

Following on from the events of the 1916 rising, in Dublin, three women struggle with life and their relationships after the effects of the rebellion. Facing love, loss, and heartache while trying to navigate life as female republicans in Ireland under British rule, the play is loosely based on women who existed during the rebellion.

Written by: Aoife Hall and Ciara Byrne

Cast: Ciara Byrne, Aoife Hall, Ella O'Callahan, Madison Cawley, Eoghain Kiernan

Hidden Skirts Theatre is a theatre company set up by Ciara Byrne and Aoife hall, who recently graduated from The LIR Academy. They have written their first play "Stones and Boiling Water" together, premiering in Droichead Arts Centre, followed by a run as part of the Sean O'Casey festival in the Sean O'Casey theatre in East Wall, Dublin on the 20th and 21st of September. The play is inspired by some of the stories of women who took part in the revolution but were less known than their male counterparts.
