Saturday 13th August
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Boyne Valley, Droichead Arts Centre and film maker Frank W. Kelly are delighted to announce the inaugural Boyne Valley International Film Festival. Curated by acclaimed filmmaker and Boyne Valley native Frank W. Kelly and Collette Farrell, Droichead Arts Centre Director, this two day event will feature the best short films from around the country, and the world, with a special focus on films made in the region.

8 Simple Steps to Making Your Short Film is a new book by filmmaker Frank W. Kelly. It is a striped back step-by-step guide to making a short film in a short time frame and on a very low budget. The ethos of the book is doing what you can with what you have.

For Frank it has been making these films in one day, on one location, with two actors and shooting on his phone with no crew. In the last year Frank has made 5 films using this method, and he is set to make a sixth later this year, “A Quiet One” starring Bill Murphy and Oisin De Lange.

During this workshop Frank will open up his process to participants while rehearsing and improvising with two actors live on stage. Participants of the workshop are invited to take part, offer suggestion and be part of the writing process. Throughout Frank will discuss how he has produced films like this, using the method outlined in his book.
