SOLO returns to Droichead Arts Centre in March 2022 with a brand new format and another stellar lineup of award-winning local and national artists. Curated by SJ McArdleSOLO: Out On The Weekend will once again showcase some of the most original and incisive voices in Irish music. Taking the form of a weekend mini-festival, the event will feature performances from A Lazarus Soul, Emma Langford, Steo Wall, Theresa, Caimin Hall, Josh Johnston, Sive and Shaz Oye! Now in its eighth year, SOLO has over the years seen sold out performances from world-class acts like Maria Doyle Kennedy, Mark Geary, Aoife Scott, Niamh Regan and Clare Sands.

On the festival’s inaugural night, Droichead Arts Centre is delighted to bring you award-winning songwriter and singer Emma Langford, live from Gerrard’s Church, Drogheda on Friday 11 March. The Irish Times described Emma as “a treasure in Ireland’s music scene”, and she was awarded the RTÉ Folk Award for Best Emerging Artist in 2018, and in 2020 and 2021 was nominated for Best Folk Singer. She received the Music Network RESONATE residency, and Arts Council Agility Award in ’21 to support her continuing musical exploration of women in Irish history.

Storytelling sits at the heart of everything Emma does, interweaving her live performances and shining through her two highly acclaimed albums, Quiet Giant (2017) and Sowing Acorns (2020). 2022 will see her collaborate on a project surrounding the legendary Gráinne Mhaol, Pirate Queen, with award-winning Irish conductor and composer Eimear Noone; and take part in the Irish Women in Harmony national tour.

Also performing on the night is Theresa, a vocalist and songwriter living in Beaulieu, Co. Louth. After studying and playing jazz, classical, musical theatre and popular music, Theresa has channelled these influences into her own compositions. Her music portrays a mixture of story-telling and real-life experiences, touching on issues such as feminism and gender identity, climate change and navigating the world as a young woman in the music industry. Her debut album is due for release in 2022.
